Alexander D. Schultheis is a Senior Associate at Cohn & Dussi. Alex is a multi-disciplined practitioner across a breadth of transactional and litigation practice areas, melding his unique experiences to advise clients from the inception of a commercial transaction all the way through a settlement, arbitration, mediation, or trial in litigation.
Alex’s practice spans across many practice areas, including commercial lending & finance, equipment leasing and finance, factoring, corporate and financial services, real estate law, not-for-profit representation, litigation, construction law, collections and workouts, creditor’s rights and bankruptcy, dispute resolution, and insurance subrogation.
Prior to joining Cohn & Dussi, Alex first worked for several years at litigation firms throughout Rhode Island, and as a Special Assistant Attorney General in the Civil Division of the Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office for Rhode Island Attorney General Peter F. Neronha. More recently, Alex worked at multiple transactional law firms in Rhode Island and Massachusetts honing his craft in commercial lending and finance, commercial real estate, corporate law, and restructuring and workout. He has worked on commercial loan originations and modifications ranging up to as high as $65 million in value.
Alex believes in a radically transparent, candid, honest, and ethical approach in both transactional and litigation matters when dealing with clients and opposing counsel to minimize conflict and work towards a mutual resolution. He takes a measured, thoughtful approach to handling client matters, and believes strongly in educating clients about their legal issues. Alex believes in being civil and respectful to opposing counsel, even when they choose to be combative and condescending. He unwaveringly believes that nice lawyers finish first when it comes to client satisfaction.
Alex graduated from Saint Anselm College in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, in Politics, and a minor in Public Policy Process, and also served as a 3-year captain of the Men’s Tennis Team. He then received his Juris Doctorate in 2015 from Suffolk University Law School, graduating with a concentration in business law and financial services, which he received with distinction. While at Suffolk, Alex served first as a Staff Member, and then as the Lead Articles Editor, of the Journal of High Technology Law.
